We Are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father

We Are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father

In the April 2013 General Conference held by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose members are sometimes called Mormons, Elaine Dalton gave her final address as president of the Young Women’s program. This program serves teenage girls around the world and she oversaw a program that included about a million girls and their leaders worldwide. Sister Dalton’s Theme was “We are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father.” This is a gospel truth Mormons teach their members from the very youngest age—that we are all, every single person ever born, literal children of God, not by adoption if we make good choices, but by birth. Mormons believe God created our spirits, entitling Him to be our literal father. All mortal beings have a Heavenly Father as well as a mortal one. “In every country and on every continent, I have met confident, articulate young women, filled with light, refined by hard work and trial, possessing pure and simple faith.... Read the rest of this entry »

David Archuleta Leaves on Mormon Mission

David Archuleta Leaves on Mormon Mission

Pop star David Archuleta surprised the world in December, 2011, by announcing that he had decided to serve a two year volunteer mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David is a life-long Mormon, the nickname for members of this church. In 2007, David Archuleta became famous for his appearance on American Idol, a popular talent show for pop singers. He was one of the youngest finalists in the history of the show, just sixteen years old. Following his run on the program, he launched a solo career, with his first album debuting in the number two spot at Billboard. It is uncommon for popular singers to put aside their work to take a two-year hiatus out of the public eye. It is, in fact, considered a risky decision to make. However David explained that no one had told him to do it; it was a choice he made for himself. He explained in his farewell video that he wanted to set aside this time to build his relationship with God, something... Read the rest of this entry »

Karl-Heinz Schnibbe, A Mormon Hero, Dies

Karl-Heinz Schnibbe, A Mormon Hero, Dies

In 1941, three Mormon teenagers decided it was time to do something about Hitler. They felt people needed to understand what he was really doing. Helmuth Hübener, age sixteen, and Karl-Heinz Schnibbe, age seventeen, listened regularly to an the BBC’s German broadcast, an act that was illegal because it wasn’t approved by the Nazis. They noted that what they learned from their newscasts was very different from what the BBC said, and decided the Nazi broadcasts were untrue. Hübener began writing about the differences in information and handing out the articles around town. Although nervous about this activity, Schnibbe and Rudolf Wobbe, who was only fifteen, began to help him. Hübener was captured and tortured until he gave the names of his two friends, but he saved their lives by insisting he did all the work and his friends only handed out whatever he gave them. Hübener became the youngest person murdered for resisting Hitler. He was beheaded.... Read the rest of this entry »

What Activities Do Mormons Have For Youth?

What Activities Do Mormons Have For Youth?

Personal Response by Natalie Mormons (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) have quite a few activities for youth. All activities sponsored by the Mormon Church are designed to provide youth with a fellowshipping base, or friends who are upholding the values of the Church.  Activities are also fashioned to encourage maturity and self-reliance, increase testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and teach skills while providing wholesome fun. All youth ages 12-18 belong to either of the Young Women or Young Men organizations. On Sundays during the three-hour block of meetings, youth meet for about an hour in their respective classes. There they are taught lessons about the scriptures and gospel. Within each of the organizations, there are three sub groups. For example, in the Young Women organization, 12- and 13-year-old young women meet in what is called the Beehive class, 14- and 15-year-old young women meet in the Mia Maid class,... Read the rest of this entry »
